Urban Outfitters 50% Off Sale

Every item in the basement at Urban Outfitters in Harvard Square is 50% off right now. It is pretty picked over, but there are alot of size medium and large items for girls left. There are also alot of hats there for $5 to $10. Warning: It smelled like a dirty hipster down there.

Planet Records: Harvard Square

Matt (the vinyl-fanatic for beans in a can) found some great vinyl yesterday at Planet Records in Harvard Square. He picked up a Louis Armstrong, Professor Long Hair, The Traveling Wilburys, and Slim and Slam albums. Definitely check this place out for a wide selection of music (especially Rock and Jazz) and great deals. On average, Matt paid $10 each for his records, which are in prestine condition. Like, Tres Gatos, they would also play the records before you buy. However, in Matt’s opinion the condition of the records and prices are better at Planet Records while the inventory at Tres Gatos (see blog post here) is more selective and unique. Planet Records buy and sell used and new CDs, LPs, DVDs. Click here for directions!

Columbus Day Sale: Second Time Around

I found some really great deals at the Second Time Around in Harvard Square last night. Everything downstairs was 70% off and everything upstairs was 30% off. The sale will go through Monday (Columbus Day). They have several racks of cute dresses for sale, among other items. I snagged a brand new Free People dress for $35 bucks and an adorable pair of Frye ankle boots! There are four Second Time Arounds in Boston; find a location nearest you here

Dispatches from Brimfield: Antique Christmas Decorations

Claudette May had an interesting selection of vintage Christmas decorations. I really love these old items; mainly because my grandmother’s house was always full of them during Christmas. Check out the photos under the Special Features tab.

I broke the rule

So…when I started this blog I said I would keep everything $50 and under…but….

Okay, let me explain. So these boots aren’t vintage, nor were they cheap, but they were a great deal. I stopped off by TJ Maxx today on the way home from work and bought a $15 dress for a wedding this weekend (I will post pics after the wedding) and I came across these REALLY nice, Coach leather boots. They were originally almost $300 boots, but I got them for $150. So although I broke the rule, I feel this purchase is justified because they will last me at least two seasons. So if you have $150 and are looking for super cute and comfortable short, motorcycle-ish boots check out the TJ Maxx on Harvard Ave–they have them in black and brown.

Brimfield Antique Show Was a Blast

I can’t wait to share all the stories and photos from the Brimfield Antique show yesterday. If you didn’t get a chance to make it to the show, you can go today! However, it is the last day and some of the vendors may not be there. Furthermore, if you can’t make it today try to make it to the May and June shows. You will not be disappointed. It was the largest antique show I have EVER been to in my life. The prices were amazing; I even picked up some great items for $1! I had such a blast meeting all the vendors, taking photos and finding treasures to take home. Over the next week, I will be sharing stories from the show. You can soon find “Dispatches from Brimfield” under the “Special Features” tab.

Tres Gatos aka Vinyl Heaven

I went to dinner last night at Tres Gatos in JP and was thrilled to find out they have a new/used record and bookstore in the back of the restaurant. The place has a huge selection of artists! I purchased 2 Dolly Pardon albums (one of which I plan to give a friend as a gift) for under $6 each.

There are several great things about buying records from Tres Gatos: 1.) Listen Before You Buy: They will play your record in the store so you know you are getting quality vinyl! 2.) Prices Are Fair: Most of the records start at five bucks. 3.) You Can Stay Hydrated: You can take your soda/wine/beer/sangria/water (whatever you please) in the store and shop while you wait for dinner 4.)You Get Freebies: When you purchase a book/cd/record from the store you get to take an additional item from their “free basket.”

“My Secret Boston” Shares Their Favorite Vintage Stores

“My Secret Boston” recently shared “Twelve places to find clothes that don’t look like (or cost as much as if) they came from the mall.” Some of the places are still quite pricy, but there are several vintage stores listed. I added four of them (The Velvet Fly, Rescue, Boutique Fabulous, and The Closet) to the directory. I have been to The Closet many times and always find cute and reasonably price accessories.
